We’re artists―aren’t we the type that’s supposed to think “outside of the box?” The fact is limitations are often an advantage in disguise. They define the boundaries of our goal and help lead us toward creative solutions.
There’s rarely enough time, money, or material resources to do things the way we want. But when we recognize that this is a good thing, we start to see what we can do. Just think of all of the success stories which sprang from humble beginnings.
Out-of-the-box thinking is overrated. It leads to many dead ends and only a few successes. It’s the limitations that foster creative ideas and innovation — they force us to focus.
“Do what you can, with what you have,
where you are.”Theodore Roosevelt
